For 150 years, the Lynn YMCA has been the connective tissue of the Lynn community — serving more than 25,000 people annually through programs spanning aquatics, childcare, transitional housing, teen job training, and healthy meals for over 650 children. When the Demakes Family YMCA set out to expand its impact into the performing arts, they needed more than a contractor — they needed a partner who understood both the technical demands of a professional creative facility and the community it would serve. We were brought on as consultants to help design, equip, and program a full-scale performing arts center from the ground up.
Building a performing arts facility within a community institution requires navigating a unique set of constraints. The space must function at a professional level to support live performances, podcasting, and music education while remaining accessible to all YMCA members. Every operational and technological decision was made to bridge these goals, ensuring the environment supports everyone from young beginners to working artists.
We provided end-to-end consulting across four areas: operations, audio, technology, equipment, and music programming. The facility was designed to house a live performance space, podcast room, production lab, recording studio, and individual practice rooms — each built and outfitted to professional standards. Alongside the physical build, we designed the music programming model that would bring the space to life, creating a sustainable framework for ongoing community engagement, artist development, and youth programming that aligns with the YMCA's broader mission.
